Ground Modelling Technologies Limited
Ground Modelling Technologies Limited was founded by Dr John Orpen, Dr Bob Foster and Stephen Auret in 2007. The company focuses on new 'milestone' technologies to underpin major investments in geoscience industries.
StereoCore PhotoLog is proven as a ‘game changing’ milestone technology to deliver quality controlled core log data, whilst revolutionizing the productivity and working conditions of drill site core loggers, and delivering real time efficiency and practical advantage to office based staff and management. It delivers reliable, highest-quality core data, enabling valid data analysis and sound investment decisions.
Crucially, StereoCore PhotoLog provides a comprehensive independent audit capability to ensure that investment decisions that rely on core data may be independently assessed / defended.
The technology has been tried, tested, and proven by some of the largest exploration and mining companies at locations and projects around the world. It is an essential tool with application in the geotechnical, exploration, and mining sectors - applicable across all industries that rely on quality core data inputs; including mineral, oil & gas, geotechnical, geothermal and waste disposal industries.

Managing Director
John lectured in the Geology Department, University of Zimbabwe from 1980 to 1990. He was Chairman of the Department for the last three years until he was appointed Director of the Zimbabwe Geological Survey, Ministry of Mines. In 1993 he was contracted by the Free University of Amsterdam to establish a MSc in Exploration Geology back at UZ. In 1997 he started his own consultancy and also sold diamond drilling rigs (JKS Boyles) and equipment. He came to South Africa in 2001, initially working for Reeves Wireline before again doing consultancy and drilling / geotechnical assurance reviews, which work he continues to this day - see the De Beers reference below. |
Lead Developer
David is the lead programmer for the StereoCore project. He holds an MSc in mathematics from Rhodes University (South Africa) and a diploma in computer science from the University of the Witwatersrand. David has been working with Ground Modelling Technologies Ltd since 2011. Alongside his responsibilities for all algorithms and coding, he has developed:

Director
After ten years in the Zimbabwe mining industry, Bob joined Southampton University in 1984 where he lectured, managed a large applied research group investigating ore-forming processes and mineral exploration strategies, as well as consulted on many major and junior mining company projects. In 1999, Bob became Minerals Manager for Exploration Consultants Limited (ECL), an international oil & gas consultancy group. Then in 2004 he co-founded Stratex Exploration Ltd and, as CEO, he listed the company on AIM in January 2006. The company focused on gold and gold-copper exploration and, amongst other successes, discovered the 1M oz Öksüt gold deposit in Turkey. Bob stood down as CEO of Stratex [now re-branded as Oriole Resources] in August 2016 but continues to provide consultancy services to the company. |
